چکیده

The effect of dimerization on the random antiferomagnetic Heisenberg chain with spin 1/2 is studied by the density matrix renormalization group method. The ground state energy, the energy gap distribution and the string order parameter are calculated. Using the finite size scaling analysis, the dimerization dependence of the these quantities are obtained. The ground state energy gain due to dimerization behaves as u with a > 2 where u denotes the degree of dimerization, suggesting the absence of spin-Peierls instability. It is explicitly shown that the string long range order survives even in the presence of randomness. The string order behaves as u with β ∼ 0.37 in agreement with the recent prediction of real space renormalization group theory (β = (3− √ 5)/2 ≃ 0.382). The physical picture of this behavior in this model is also discussed.

F eb 1 99 6 Density Matrix Renormalization Group Method for the Random Quantum One - Dimensional Systems - Application to the Random Spin - 1 / 2 Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Chain - Kazuo

The density matrix renormalization group method is generalized to one dimensional random systems. Using this method, the energy gap distribution of the spin-1/2 random antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain is calculated. The results are consistent with the predictions of the renormalization group theory demonstrating the effectiveness of the present method in random systems. The possible applicati...

Low Energy Properties of the Random Spin-1/2 Ferromagnetic-Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Chain

The low energy properties of the spin-1/2 random Heisenberg chain with ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions are studied by means of the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) and real space renormalization group (RSRG) method for finite chains. The results of the two methods are consistent with each other. The deviation of the gap distribution from that of the random singlet ph...

Density-Matrix Renormalization-Group Analysis of Quantum Critical Points: I. Quantum Spin Chains

We present a simple method, combining the density-matrix renormalization-group (DMRG) algorithm with finite-size scaling, which permits the study of critical behavior in quantum spin chains. Spin moments and dimerization are induced by boundary conditions at the chain ends and these exhibit power-law decay at critical points. Results are presented for the spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet; an...

Phase diagrams and universality classes of random antiferromagnetic spin ladders

The random antiferromagnetic two-leg and zigzag spin-1 /2 ladders are investigated using the real space renormalization group scheme and their complete phase diagrams are determined. We demonstrate that the first system belongs to the same universality class of the dimerized random spin-1 /2 chain. The zigzag ladder, on the other hand, is in a random singlet phase at weak frustration and disord...

Antiferromagnetic spin-S chains with exactly dimerized ground states.

We show that spin S Heisenberg spin chains with an additional three-body interaction of the form (S(i-1)·S(i))(S(i)·S(i+1))+H.c. possess fully dimerized ground states if the ratio of the three-body interaction to the bilinear one is equal to 1/[4S(S+1)-2]. This result generalizes the Majumdar-Ghosh point of the J1-J2 chain, to which the present model reduces for S=1/2. For S=1, we use the densi...
